During an interview with GQ, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson brought up the idea of him running for President for the first time saying “of course” to the idea that he’s put his name in the hat for the 2020 election. A few weeks later, he declared that he was intrigued by the idea of him being the President of the United States, however “three-and-a-half years is a long ways away. He joked about the topic again during the season finale of Saturday Night Live. He also shared his picture on Twitter standing behind a podium with the words ‘’The Rock’ Johnson 2020’ on it in order to promote the episode, announcing that he was teaming up for a bid with Tom Hanks.
“It’s just that when it comes to politics, we need more poise and less noise,” Johnson said. “Americans deserve strong, capable leaders. Leaders who care about this country and care about its people.”
“Dwayne, that kind of sounds like you and me,” Hanks responded. “I guess we got to do it!”
A poll that month by Public Policy Polling also showed that Johnson would “lead Trump 42/37 in a prospective contest.”
There is a pretty big possibility that Dwayne is using this idea to just joke around, however that didn’t stop someone from filing the ‘Run the Rock 2020’ campaign committee with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) this Sunday. This makes Dwayne perfectly eligible to compete in the 2020 presidential elections. Apparently, that someone is Kenton Tilford based in West Virginia.
Whether ‘The Rock’ takes this opportunity or not, thanks to Tilford, he now has a committee and campaign- “More poise, less noise”, just waiting for him to make good use of it.
